Electron microscopic demonstration of intermediate cells in the healthy adult human pancreas

Virchows Arch B Cell Pathol Incl Mol Pathol. 1986;52(3):283-7. doi: 10.1007/BF02889969.

Abstract

Electron microscopic findings obtained from the pancreas of a healthy 26-year-old organ donor are reported. These findings suggest for the first time that intermediate cells (i.e. cells with morphological characteristics of exocrine acinar or ductal cells as well as endocrine islet cells) are present in the normal adult pancreas.
